Pharmacy First – Get the Right Care Quickly

Did you know you can get treatment for a range of common conditions directly from your local pharmacy – without needing to see a GP first?

Pharmacy First allows trained pharmacists to assess you and provide advice, medicines, or treatment for certain minor illnesses, such as:

  • Ear infections (children 1–17 years)
  • Impetigo
  • Infected insect bites
  • Shingles
  • Sinusitis
  • Sore throat
  • Uncomplicated urinary tract infections (women aged 16–64)

Your pharmacist will let you know if you need further medical help, and will refer you to a GP or other service if necessary.

This means you can often get the care you need faster, while freeing up GP appointments for more complex health concerns. For more details on conditions they can treat, please click here.

What to do:

  • Visit your local pharmacy and ask about the Pharmacy First service.
  • Bring any medication you take, or a list of them, if possible.
  • No appointment is needed.

For more information, please speak to your local pharmacist or visit the NHS website.
